History of Pirque Center
The fertile lands where Isla de Pirque is located have been inhabited for more than 400 years. Its history began with the first indigenous inhabitants, passing through the colonizers, until the Republic. In 1830 the land was acquired by the politician and businessman Ramón Subercaseaux Mercado and, after his death, in 1859, was inherited by his children.
Since 1951, the old farm is owned by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. It is located on the edge of the Maipo river, on a plateau that extends south from the Andes mountain range to beyond the junction of the Maipo and Clarillo rivers.
Due to its great heritage value, UC is currently restoring the existing buildings and the park. In that process, the administration house and the chapel have already been refurbished.
